Dry season, harmattan, rains and festivals — when to travel to Ghana for beaches, safaris and culture, and what it costs.

Ghana is a year-round destination, but the experience changes a lot between seasons. Here is how we plan trips across the calendar.

November to March: the dry season

This is peak travel time. Skies are clear, roads to Mole National Park are easy, and Cape Coast and Kakum are comfortable in the mornings. December is festival season in Accra, so book accommodation early.

April to June: green and quiet

The main rains arrive. Prices soften, the forest around Kakum is at its most lush, and you will share the canopy walkway with far fewer people. Pack a light rain shell.

July to October: shoulder season

Short bursts of rain, warm sea, and good value. This is our favourite window for combining Cape Coast, Elmina and the Volta Region on one itinerary.

What it costs

A private 5-day Ghana itinerary usually starts around the mid-range hotel level and scales with group size. Tell us your budget first and we build the trip around it, not the other way round.
